What Kind of Problems can you Have with your Eyelids?

You probably don't think much about your eyelids, but they are essential to the well-being of your eyes.  Like most other parts of your body, your eyelids can get infected, inflamed (blepharitis), or even develop cancer. Other eyelid problems include:

  • Eyelids that turn in (ectropion)
  • Eyelids that turn out (entropion)
  • Eyelids that droop (ptosis and/or dermatochalasis)
  • Abnormal blinking or twitching
  • Styes and chalazia
  • Demodex mite infestation
  • Eyelashes that grow inward (trichiasis)

What are the symptoms of problems with your eyelids?

Most eyelid disorders are not vision-threatening or life-threatening; however, many cause irritating symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Foreign-body sensation
  • Itching
  • Tearing
  • Crusting
  • Inflammation of the eyelid(s)
  • Pain
  • Vision loss

How do we treat eyelid problems?
